Website Launch
We are pleased to announce today the launch of the Education For All (www.edforall.net) website. This "virtual university" is now open to all! Please visit and browse through the course offerings and take any of the courses available online free of charge. Many of these courses are based on courses conducted in some of the top universities such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Yale University and University of California, Berkeley. These institutions have generously made some of their courseware available under the Creative Commons License. If you are a high/secondary school student interested to pursue tertiary education in a particular field, select one of the lectures in a relevant course and view the video recording to experience sitting in a lecture conducted by one of the top professors in the field. For example, Prof. Walter Lewin's course on Classical Mechanics will be of interest of those keen on studying Physics. If you have a fascination with robotics, check out the introductory lecture of the course Introduction to Robotics offered in Stanford University to find out more about this subject.
If you are currently pursuing tertiary education and want to supplement what is being taught in your university, you can select a similar course here. View the video lectures, download additional course material and assignment questions. You can even interact with students taking a similar course in other universities via the discussion forums.
For those who have already graduated but have always wanted to take a course in, say, Psychology you can now do it in the comfort of your home, according to your own schedule and free of charge. The only requirement is a computer with a good broadband Internet connection. You can take the very interesting course Introduction to Psychology II conducted by Prof. Paul Bloom at Yale University. Or you can follow the course General Psychology taught by Prof. John Kihlstrom in University of California, Berkeley.
Perhaps you do not have the time to follow a full course which may entail viewing more than 20 video lectures with each lasting about an hour. In this case, check out the seminars section. You will find a wide range of seminars or talks covering different subjects. Some of these are presentations made by Nobel Prize winners. For example, Muhammad Yunus who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 gives a fascinating presentation Creating A World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism in January 2009 in Columbia University. Another interesting seminar is Global and Regional Climate Change: Underlying Science and Emerging Riddles presented by Veerabhadran Ramanathan who is Professor of Climate and Atmospheric Sciences, Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Prof. Ramanathan discovered the greenhouse effect of CFCs in 1970s.
There are currently more than 1400 lectures available here. Most of these lectures include video recordings of lectures conducted in one of the top universities.
Welcome again to this "virtual university". Please register yourself and participate in the discussion forums. We hope you will benefit from this website and perhaps others will also benefit from your participation.
